When I first began my writing journey, I had no idea how much I would love creating something out of thin air, my imagination. It is so fun to invent on the page, develop new characters and scenes from my head. Some are rather disturbing, so sorry, but my writing group chuckles with the darkness which reveals itself on the page.
I tried writing my first novel over 10 years ago. I had finished my MBA at Chapman University and thought, why waste time? Use the time I'd spent studying to write. I could do this, after all, I loved reading books. It must be easy, right?
I bungled my way through 4 chapters of a novel about Chilean terrorists who had evolved from the Pinochet era. It was a dissaster. I realized I needed help. The help came in the form of a writing class. My first class was at UCI in the extension program. After a couple of different teachers, I met Barbara DeMarco Barrett, who helped me begin my journey into writing a novel. A fairly good novel. Thank you Barbara.
I realized my journey to learn writing was just as important as the finished products. The people I met with Barbara's classes are wonderful creative helpful smart people. If not for Barbara and her classes, I would not have met these wonderful people.
If you have a book in you, or an itch to write, give it a go. It's fun and can result in a book. You never know.
